The Voice/Opera Division of the UMD School of Music offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs taught by a distinguished faculty of internationally recognized artists and scholars. The faculty comprises active performers, clinicians, and specialists, as well as veterans of the world's finest opera companies and concert halls.
William Kenlon (DMA Composition) has maintained an active career as a composer in the Washington DC and Boston areas throughout his tenure at Maryland. In 2015, he received the Walsum award for "Five Fantasies on Bach Chorales," and received performances of other works by Opera On Tap (Washington DC), through the Church of the Advent concert series (Boston), at the Fresh Inc. Festival (Chicago), and as a fellow of the Cortona Sessions for New Music (Italy).
The Theory & Composition Division offers graduate programs leading to the MA and Ph.D. degrees in Music Theory, and the MM and DMA degrees in Composition. At the undergraduate level, the division offers the BM in Composition and BM in Theory.
