DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY
The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree is designed for graduate students who desire advanced academic study in ethnomusicology, musicology, music education or music theory within the context of a major research university.
All of our Ph.D. degrees contain two years of pre-candidacy coursework, qualifying examinations and a dissertation project.
Curriculum
Requirements for the Ph.D. degrees vary by emphasis, but Ph.D. students generally complete the following:
- Two years of pre-candidacy course work
- Qualifying examinations
- A dissertation project
