The Fourteenth Annual Maryland Double Reed Day: March 10, 2012

Come be a part of this annual tradition as the University of Maryland's double reed faculty, Mark Hill and Sue Heineman, invite oboists and bassoonists from the region to the beautiful Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center for a day of listening and learning, music-making and discussion pertaining to the challenges and rewards of double reed playing. This year, guest artist Jane Marvine, solo English hornist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, will join Professors Hill and Heinenman. Click here to learn more.

National Orchestral Institute

An intensive, four-week professional development program in orchestral musicianship, the National Orchestral Institute draws top young artists from across the country to prepare them for orchestra careers.

Washburgh Timpani Seminar: July 9-13, 2012

Join Jauvon Gilliam, Principal Timpanist of the National Symphony Orchestra and Director of Percussion at UMD, and Ed Stephan, Principal Timpanist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, for a comprehensive workshop that explores two unique and contrasting approaches to all aspects of performing on the timpani.

Unlike other seminars, WTS offers the opposing views of the presenters on topics of repertoire, instrument setup and maintenance, stick choices and much more. Each participant will have the opportunity to work in both masterclass and group settings with Jauvon and Ed to determine what information will best suit their individual needs.
