  • English Language Proficiency — a link to the University of Maryland's requirements.
*Please note: our English proficiency requirements for graduate applicants are different than the university's requirements. Before we will process an application or schedule an audition, all graduate applicants whose native language is not English, must submit a TOEFL score that meets all of the following requirements:
    • All graduate applicants must submit scores equal to or exceeding the following:
      • Reading: 26
      • Listening: 24
      • Speaking: 22
    • Students applying for MA or MM degrees must submit an overall score of 92 or higher.
    • Students applying for Ph.D. or DMA degrees must submit an overall score of 100 or higher. Students who have completed their MA or MM degree at the University of Maryland may request an exception to this policy from the Associate Director for Graduate Studies.
    • The TOEFL requirement will be waived for applicants who have earned an undergraduate degree from an English-language institution in the United States (or another approved English-speaking country) and for applicants who have earned a graduate degree in a non-performance related field (i.e. musicology or theory). Waivers will only be granted if at least three years of the undergraduate education or at least two years of the graduate education in a non-performance related field took place at an English-speaking institution. Graduate degrees in performance or performance certificates/diplomas will not exempt an applicant from submitting a TOEFL score.

  • Academic Handbooks include School of Music academic policies, and requirements for each of our degrees.

  • Office of Off-Campus Housing offers guidance on finding affordable housing in the College Park area.
