College of Arts and Humanities | School of Music | The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center Monday, April 4, 2022 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Gildenhorn Recital Hall

Join us in person at The Clarice or watch the livestream from the comfort of your home.

Cellist Syneva Colle presents a colorful program of modern works from the British Isles. William Sweeney's cello duo "The Tree o'Licht" (2008) is inspired by the traditional styles of highland bagpipe music and Gaelic psalm-singing. The brooding Cello Sonata in A minor (1948) by E.J. Moeran is the composer's final major work, an example of English pastoralism that is unusually passionate and urgent. The recital will conclude with the Cello Concerto (2007) of Errollyn Wallen, one of Britain's leading contemporary composers. Presented in this performance by solo cello and string quintet, the concerto ranges widely from technical showmanship to sincere lyricism to joyful dance.

Syneva will by joined by Katie McCarthy (cello), Jessica McKee (piano), Abby Wuehler (violin), Anna Luebke (violin), Seth Goodman (viola), and Omar Martinez-Sandoval (bass).
