J.S. Bach, known as the great master, wrote more than 200 cantatas, and UMD Choral Activities aims to sing them all in this series of short performances led by conductors in the graduate program. Conducted by Amy Broadbent, this performance will feature O ewiges feuer, o Ursprung der Liebe (O eternal fire, o source of love), BWV 34.

This cantata premiered on the Pentecost Sunday of 1727 in Leipzig, Germany. Bach pulled out all the stops, featuring strings, winds, trumpets and drums in this lively work. The text encourages us to strive to become our highest and best selves, working for a more peaceful and more just world. With effervescent writing for the chorus and orchestra, and beautiful solo movements, this is Bach at his finest: triumphant, joyful, eternal.

The choir will be pre-selected and is not open for community participation.
