Excelsa Quartet among chamber music elites at international competition

Thu, Jan 22, 2015

The School of Music’s Graduate Fellowship String Quartet, Excelsa Quartet, is traveling to the beautiful city of Graz, Austria from February 4 - 12 to compete in the Schubert and Modern Music Chamber Music Competition. With a program of works by Schubert, Haydn, Smetana, Janáček, Schnittke, and Adès, the group will compete against twenty other string quartets from around the world. Starting in the second round of the competition, the performances will be streamed live online at schubert.kug.ac.at.

Excelsa’s travel to Austria has been made possible by a generous gift from the Steppel family in loving memory of Barbara K. Steppel. The quartet says, “As an all-female quartet, we are privileged to honor an outstanding woman who served as a role model and spread the joy of music by teaching and playing the cello.”

To view the competition from Excelsa’s perspective, please follow them on their social media, and tune in to the live footage online.
