Mrs. Barbara S. Walters

Barbara is a chemistry instructor in the University of Maryland College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences.  She lectures in general, organic, and engineering chemistry and is credited with introducing lab report forms in general chemistry courses.  Barbara has served on the Faculty Senate Committee for Faculty Affairs.

Barbara graduated cum laude with a degree of Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois.  She also received a degree of Master of Science from the University of Illinois as a graduate fellow.  Her many academic honors include membership in Kappa Delta Pi (International Honorary Society in Education) and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.  In addition to chemistry, Barbara possesses a great passion for the performing arts.  In college, she worked as a junior stage manager at University Theatre, University of Illinois.  She studied voice with James Bailey while attending Illinois, as well as music theory and piano.  When she came to Maryland, she studied voice with Louise Urban and was a member of the University of Maryland Chorus (1970-1986).  Barbara also sang with the Boston Pro Music Chorus (Boston, MA: 1967-1970), the University Chorus (University of Leuven, Belgium: 1978), and the Oxford Pro Music Chorus (Oxford, UK: 1986-1987).

Barbara is married to Dr. William B. Walters, who is a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences. They are longtime patrons to the performing arts at Maryland.
