Ms. Sallie A. Holder

Sallie is retired from the University of Maryland and the Prince George’s County Public School System, where she worked for many years as a program manager and teacher, respectively.  She also managed her own business called Holder & Associates for 20 years.  This company coordinated and planned conferences for area businesses and agencies, as well as for the government contractors that were networked through the Society of Government Meeting Planners.  Sallie received a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Ecology from the University of Maryland and a Master of Arts degree in Human Resource Development from The George Washington University.  She has been a member of the Maryland Alumni Association and served on the first University of Maryland College Park Alumni Board of Governors.  She has also served on the Prince George’s Alumni Board for 10 years, once as vice-president and currently as secretary, and on the Alumni Board of the College of Human Ecology (1971-1993).  In addition to the Alumni Association, Sallie continues to serve on a variety of regional boards and advisories, including the Prince George’s Community College Advisory Council of the College of Business and Management (1999-2009); the vestry of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church (1990-1993 and 2002-2004); the University of Maryland Art Gliner Center for Humor Studies (2001-2005); the University Park Women’s Club (2008 to present); the Paint Branch Garden Club (2010-2012); and the Smithsonian Volunteer Advisory Council (June 2013).  Sallie received the University of Maryland College of Human Ecology Distinguished Service Award in 1981 and was included into the University of Maryland Senior Volunteer Hall of Fame in 2011.  She is a charter volunteer usher at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (2001-2005).  As a music enthusiast, Sallie spends much of her summer in Chautauqua, New York, where she has been involved with the Chautauqua Connections Scholarship Program, which supports music students studying in the Music Festival Summer Orchestra.  Sallie played the French horn in Northwestern High School and the University of Maryland bands
