Competition Winners Announced

Three prize-winners have been announced following the Finals of the 2007 UMSO Concerto Competition, held Friday March 9, 2007 in the Clarice Smithe Center's Dekelboum Concert Hall.

Winners, 2007 UMSO Concerto Competition:
1st Prize, $3000 - Jennyrose Spence, violin
performing Maurice Ravel's Tzigane

2nd Prize, $2000 - Kacy Clopton, cello
performing Antonin Dvorak's Cello Concerto

3rd Prize, $1000 - Scott Crawford, timpani
performing James Oliverio's Timpani Concerto No. 1

As 1st Prize-Winner, violinist Jennyrose Spence will perform Ravel's Tzigane as guest soloist with the UM Symphony Orchestra next season. The UM School of Music would like to to congratulate this year's Finalists and to thank all competitors for an outstanding contest.

Ten finalists have been announced for the 2007 UMSO Concerto Competition, following the preliminary round held on Sunday, March 4:

Download the Schedule of Finalists (PDF), complete with repertoire and order of performance. An independent jury panel selected the above finalists from a pool of thirty-nine competitors (PDF), each performing 6-minute excerpts from a concerto or concert piece.

The final round of the 2007 UMSO Concerto Competition will be take place on Friday, March 9 at 7PM, in the Dekelboum Concert Hall, with finalists performing extended excerpts of their chosen piece. For more info, visit the Calendar of Events. Complete schedule and repertoire to be posted soon...
