Following national searches, the UM School of Music announces two new faculty appointments for the 2009-2010 year.
- Katherine Murdock has been appointed Associate Professor of Viola. Murdock is currently a member of the Los Angeles Piano Quartet and the Left Bank Quartet, and has also toured across the country and around the world performing with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Boston Chamber Music Society, the Brandenburg Ensemble, and the Mendelssohn String Quartet.
She has served on the faculties of the Boston Conservatory, the Longy School, Wellesley College, and the Hartt School of Music, as well as held the position of Artist in Residence at Harvard University, Stony Brook University and the University of Delaware.
- Patrick Warfield has been appointed Assistant Professor of Musicology. Warfield comes to UM from Georgetown University where he was Visiting Assistant Professor, teaching courses in American concert music, George Gershwin, rock and jazz history, the blues, and rap music.
Warfield earned his Ph.D. in Musicology at Indiana University in 2003 with a dissertation on John Philip Sousa. His interests are nineteenth and early twentieth-century American music, Sousa and Gershwin.
Prior to these searches, the School of Music announced in December 2008 that saxophonist Connie Frigo has been appointed Lecturer for the 2009-2010 school year, replacing long-time classical saxophone teacher Dale Underwood.
