    Michel Huglo: December 14, 1921 - May 13, 2012
    Michel Huglo, musicologist, passed away on May 13, 2012. His scholarly work in Gregorian chant studies is internationally recognized and he is considered the leading authority on this music. He was appointed as adjunct professor at the School of Music in 2006.

    Virginia Freeman: April 4, 1928 - October 22, 2011
    Virginia Freeman, noted choreographer, dancer and teacher passed away after a long illness on Saturday, October, 22, 2011 at her home in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She was a choreographer and movement consultant for over a dozen Maryland Opera Studio productions including Armide, Tales of Hoffman, Don Giovanni, Clara, Later the Same Evening, A Midsummer Night's Dream as well as cabaret performances of Noel and Cole.

    Roger Folstrom: December 14, 1934 - October 17, 2011
    Roger Folstrom was the Chair of Music Education at the University of Maryland School of Music from 1974 until his retirement in 2002. He is loved and respected throughout the state of Maryland for his development of teachers, his choral adjudication, and his labors on behalf of the Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA), including his presidency; he was inducted into the MMEA Hall of Fame.

    James Ross, Director of Orchestral Activities at University of Maryland, Joins Juilliard Faculty
    The Juilliard School has appointed James Ross, Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Maryland School of Music, to the faculty as an associate to Alan Gilbert, Juilliard's newly named Director of Orchestral Studies. Gilbert, who was appointed music director of the New York Philharmonic last year, said that Ross will provide a permanent presence for the Juilliard conducting students. Ross looks forward to incorporating his work at Juilliard into his life at UM, where he will continue to serve as the Director of Orchestral Activities.

    Dr. Lee Hinkle will perform at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention with Janis Potter and the All-Star Mallet Ensemble on November 12, 2010. He will be joined by Anders Astrand, Juli Davila, Lalo Davila, Chris Deviney, Mark Ford, Joseph Gramley, Chris Hanning, William Moersch, Glenn Paulson and She-e Wu in a program that includes new works for solo marimba and percussion ensemble.
