University of Maryland High School Music Academy: June 25 - 29, 2017

From June 25 - 29, 2017, the University of Maryland High School Music Academy brings students entering grades 9- 12 to the UMD School of Music for a 5-day, comprehensive exploration of music-making with our renowned faculty.


With the goal of cultivating well-rounded young musicians, the Academy provides a lively, supportive setting in which students will participate in a variety of master classes, ensembles, and discussions.


Activity Highlights

The week's activities include:

  • String orchestra, band, and chamber music rehearsals

  • Coachings, masterclasses and Q&A sessions with UMD School of Music faculty

  • Mini-recitals featuring UMD School of Music faculty and students

  • A college fair with representatives from top college and conservatory music programs

  • A performance event at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center 


Application Information

Students may either audition live or send an audition recording through our Accetpd portal. 

Important Dates

November 7, 2016: Application opens. There is an application fee of $50.
March 20, 2017: Application Deadline for Live Audition 
Live auditions will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis; please apply as soon as possible to reserve your place! 
March 25-26, 2017: Live Auditions at the University of Maryland School of Music
March 27, 2017: Application Deadline for Video Audition

Students will be notified of their acceptance during April of 2017. 



Tuition and Scholarships

New this year: High School Music Academy will offer a commuter option!

2017 Program Tuition: $450
2017 Residential Fee: TBA
The residential fee includes all meals and housing in a University of Maryland dorm.

Tuition for commuter students: $450
Tuition for over-night students: will include the program fee plus residential fee.

In order to be considered for scholarship, students must complete the additional scholarship questions in the general program application.
