Kathleen Trahan is an active recitalist, chamber artist, free-lance musician and flute instructor in the Washington, D.C. area. She received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in flute performance from the University of Maryland and was later appointed to its adjunct faculty. Her teachers include Robert Aitken, James Galway, and William Montgomery.

Ms. Trahan has won numerous competitions including first prize in the International Alpha Delta Kappa Competition, first prize in the Arts and Letters Competition, first place in the 1991 Baltimore Chamber Music Competition, first place in the National Flute Association Newly Published Music Competition, second place in the National MTNA Competition, and quarter-place finalist in both the Naumberg and Concert Artist Guild Competitions. She has performed at the National Flute Association Convention three times.

She has performed with many orchestras including the National Gallery of Art, Kennedy Center Opera and Ballet Orchestras, National Performance Institute Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Fairfax Symphony, National Symphony, Beethoven Pops, University of Maryland among many other free-lance orchestras. She is currently the principal flute with the Prince George's Philharmonic and principal second with the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra. Some of the chamber ensembles she has performed with or has been a full-time member of include the Theater Chamber Players of the Kennedy Center, Paragon, University of Maryland Baroque Ensemble, and the Artists to End Hunger Chamber Ensembles.

Ms. Trahan has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Phillips Gallery, Library of Congress, World Band, National Building Museum, and the Kennedy Center among many other major halls. Currently Ms. Trahan is the Concert Coordinator at the National Building Museum and coordinates their "Classics and More" series, the "Jazz and More" series, and the Levine Series. She has been listed in Who's Who in American Music, the International Who's Who in Music, the Dictionary of International Biography, and the International Who's Who of Women.
