Pat Diamond's recent theatre directing credits include the premiere of Virgin of the Vieux, a one-woman play by Sex and the City writer Aury Wallington. He has also directed An Evening of Sondheim at the Aspen Music Festival, Shakespeare's Twelfth Night at Yale Drama School, and Mayakovsky's Vladimir Myakovsky: A Tragedy at The Yale Cabaret. Pat has been involved in many premieres and new works. Most recently, he assisted Evan Yionoulis on the premiere of Richard Greenberg's The Violet Hour, the inaugural production in the new Broadway home for the Manhattan Theater Club: The Biltmore Theater. The production stars Robert Sean Leonard, Scott Foley, and Mario Cantone. He also directed the premiere of a new translation of Calderon de la Barca's masterpiece The Great Magician at Yale. Other significant new works include directing the plays New by A. Rey Pamatmat and The Mystery Plays by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (receiving its new York premiere in Spring 2004), and Know Dog by Kathryn Walat, all at Yale; and working on the operas Greek by Marc-Antony Turnage, at Aspen, and Thomas Ades's Powder her Face in its US premiere at Aspen and New York premiere at BAM.
Pat began working in opera by carrying a chainsaw in the American Premiere of Rhim's Oedipus. Since then he as worked in various capacities at the Santa Fe Opera, The Dallas Opera, The Baltimore Opera and The Aspen Music Festival and School, and assisted such directors as Werner Herzog (Tannhaeuser), John Copley (Il Trovatore), Bernard Uzan (Andrea Chenier, Romeo et Juliette), and Edward Berkeley (Multiple Productions). He has directed scenes from Britten, Donizetti, Rossini, and Mozart. This spring he will be Co-directing Clara and Tales of Hoffman with Leon Major at the University of Maryland. He has taught at the Aspen Music Festival and School where for four years he taught the Mozart class with Richard Bado. He has taught acting to singers at Aspen and to actors in the Yale Summer School program where he has also taught directing. He is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama in Directing.
