Jarl O. Hulbert

Dr. Hulbert combined his background in piano with his love for music history in his 2006 dissertation, which examined evidence for the hidden dissemination of Johann Nepomuk Hummel's pedagogical principles through American and European studios and institutions. In addition to being on the faculty at the University of Maryland, Dr. Hulbert has been on the faculty at St. Mary's College of Maryland and West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He is also the founder, together with his wife Irene, of ARTI-ST Music Center, LLC, in Baltimore County, Maryland, and he has served as Coordinator of the prestigious William Kapell International Piano Competition since 2006.

Dr. Hulbert's accomplishments have earned him recognition in both the Marquis and Who's Who in the World. In addition to being a featured speaker on a number of topics, he has served in an administrative capacity for a variety of events, including those of the American Handel Society, the University of Maryland's centennial Copland Festival, and the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center's American Piano Project. Dr. Hulbert's recent scholarly work includes an expansion of his dissertation, which will be published by the German firm Hainholz.
