Dr. John R. Moore


John Moore, raised on Ohio dairy farm, earned academic degrees in agriculture at The Ohio State University, Cornell University and the University of Wisconsin. He was a faculty member at Michigan State University for four years and then came to the University of Maryland in 1963 where he taught and researched in agricultural and resource economics for 35 years. He retired as professor emeritus in 1995.

During John’s tenure at the University of Maryland, he spent 10 years as director of international programs in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. His work there earned him the Campus’ International Distinguished Service Award. Earlier, the American Agricultural Economics Assn. presented John with its Ph.D. thesis award. He has been included in Who’s Who in America for the past 20 years. John has served as an international agricultural development advisor in 13 countries, including two years in India under the auspices of the Ford Foundation. He is the senior author of three books on agricultural marketing and has many journal articles to his credit.

John and his late wife, Marjorie, provide international travel scholarships each year to two students in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. John is also the chairman of the board of two non-profits, the College Park Housing Authority, which manages Attick Towers and Trees for the Future that is based in Silver Spring. John joined the Board of Visitors in 2012.
