Ferdinand and his choir, the Oakwood University Aeolians, earned the top title at the Choir of the World competition at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. Ferdinand, who has directed the Aeolians since 2008, was also named Outstanding Director of the World Choral Festival.
Joel Pierson (D.M.A. Composition '14) Is Second-Place Winner in New York Philharmonic Composition Challenge
Pierson is a second-place winner in the New York Philharmonic’s "New World" Composition Challenge for his piece, "Afternoon on a Hill." An initiative of the Philharmonic’s 175th anniversary season, the Composition Challenge invited New York City–based composers to create works that contained or referenced themes from Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, "From the New World."
An experienced performer and dedicated educator, Grimmer is Principal Bassoon of the Kennedy Center Opera House and Washington National Opera Orchestra, teaches at the Miami Music Festival and has led masterclasses at university music programs around the country.
Courtney Cacopardo Ruckman (B.M. Voice, ‘08) Sings Featured Role in Premiere of Robert Paterson's "Three Way"
Ruckman appeared as Jessie in the East Coast premiere of "Three Way" at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) from June 15-18, 2017. As the original interpreter of Jessie, Ruckman gave the role its world premiere earlier this year as a Nashville Opera emerging artist.
