Tommaso Lonquich is quickly earning international renown as a chamber musician. In 2011, he was appointed solo clarinet with Ensemble MidtVest, a full-time chamber ensemble based in Denmark that is known for its creative programming and innovative approach to the classical concert. This year, he was appointed to the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society (CMS) under its three-year residency “Two Artists” program.With his reputation on the rise, we asked Tommaso about how his career has taken shape, what inspires him, and what advice he would give to our recent graduates.
During the spring of 2014, the UMD School of Music launched Common Tone, a free community concert series at the Hyattsville Busboys and Poets. After a successful pilot season, the School of Music joins with the Artist Partner Program at The Clarice to co-curate five Common Tone events for the 2014 – 2015 season.
On July 12, 2014, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band appointed University of Maryland alumnus Lieutenant Colonel Jason K. Fettig as its 28th director in a change of command ceremony held at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Center in Alexandria, Va. Lt. Col. Fettig will serve as 28th Director in band’s 216-year history.
